Description
This male Northern Flicker is returning to the backside of its nesting tree to avoid pesky fish crows. Windy conditions causes it to have to twist in flight in order to land on the tree exposing itself to the morning light breaking through the trees above and creating a display of its vibrant yellow wings and tail feathers.Image was captured at Huntley Meadows Wetland located in Fairfax County Virginia.
