Description
Caracaras are birds of prey in the family Falconidae. This Crested Caracarra was on display during the 6th annual Owl Moon Raptor Festival that took place in November 2019 at a Montgomery County Park in Maryland. The festival was run by volunteers of the the Moon Owl Raptor Center and Black Hill Regional Park located in Boyds Maryland. Founded in 2002, the Owl Moon Raptor Center is a state and federally licensed wildlife rehabilitation center specializing in birds of prey.
This Crested Caracarra is considered to be part of a falcon subfamily, Falconinae. It is often found in groups feeding on carrion. They can be seen in the wild in the Southern USA state of Texas This particular bird would from time to time make a clicking sound as it turned its head upside down. Perhaps this gave it a different perspective on the world around it.
