Wood Duck Chicks are gathering around their mother as they just emerged from their nesting box at Huntley Meadows Wetland in Fairfax Virginia. The female wood duck was moving erratically back and forth in the wetland making small noises when suddenly their appeared one chick. Then another chick was there and so on and so on until there was about eight. There was actually a male wood duck nearby but still a bit distant from the event. The hen then gathered the chicks together and proceeded to swim down a small waterway away from the nesting box that once was their home..
